Blanche Garrett and Rebekah McDowell are a mother-daughter team that is devoted to the field of child development. Their backgrounds and experience are a testament to this fact.

Blanche is the mother of two children and the grandmother of two. She has a bachelor’s degree in home economics education and early childhood education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She has also earned a Master’s of Social Work degree from Louisiana State University. Blanche currently teaches parenting and child development at the high school level. Her past experience includes being the owner and director of an in-home preschool program for four years. In the field of social work she has worked in the social services area in a program which provided services to infirmed patients that enabled them to remain in their homes, at UNC hospitals in the area of medical social work and as a certified school social worker in a school for emotionally and educationally handicapped children. Blanche also does volunteer work with the children in her church.

Rebekah is the mother of two young children who understands the needs of today’s parents. She is a former nanny and preschool teacher. Her experiences as a mother of young children, a nanny and teacher enable her to know just what it is that parents desire in the person that cares for their child. Additionally, she understands and identifies with what it is that a nanny needs to feel connected and fulfilled in her position with a family. Rebekah has been instrumental in forming playgroups in the areas in which she has lived. Due to Rebekah’s creativity and interest, these playgroups have grown from two children to seventy-five with new groups being formed to accommodate the ages of so many children. Because of Rebekah’s ardent interest in the education of young children, she takes an active role in her son’s education by initiating and engaging in classroom activities and participating in the activities of the school.

The traits which Blanche and Rebekah possess qualify them as a superior team to meet the needs of families and nannies alike. Their knowledge in the area of child development comes from years of education and experience in the workplace, but unsurpassed is the passion which they share for working with young children in a family environment.
